There is a significant difference in force stopping (AKA killing) an app between iOS and Android.
In iOS you swipe the app from the task switcher the app will be killed, while on Android swiping an app away on the task switcher does not kill the app (e.g. Gimbal will continue to see Sightings, Geofences, etc...).
Android does not support waking an app if it is "forced stop" from settings in menu. In Android, a consumer needs to go into Settings -> App-> Click on the App -> Click on Force stop to force kill the app at which point Gimbal will not trigger until the app is run again.
