The purpose for Major/Minor is for identifying, organizing, and tracking beacons down to a finer level.
To configure a beacon to iBeacon mode, developers need to create and assign a new configuration to each beacon in order to grant a unique UUID, major and minor to each one. There is no limit to the number of configurations you can create.
A developer can create 10 unique UUID's each having 65535 unique major and 65535 unique minor id's. In other words, with one UUID you have access to 4 billion combinations of major and minor.
How configure a beacon to iBeacon mode:
Log into 'Gimbal Manager' with your developers account > click 'Beacon Configurations' > 'New Configuration' button >under 'Beacon type', select 'iBeacon' > enter unique UUID, Major and Minor > click 'Create Configuration'
How to assign the newly created iBeacon configuration to a beacon:
Once you have created an iBeacon configuration, you can assign this configuration to a beacon. Assigning a configuration indicates to the server that you want to apply that configuration to the specified beacon.
To do so, navigate to 'Beacons' > click 'Edit' and select the newly created iBeacon configuration from the 'Assigned Configuration' drop down menu.
How to apply a configuration to a beacon:
In order to apply the configuration to the Gimbal beacon, you must use the Gimbal Beacon Manager application for your mobile device that can be installed from the Apple App store (currently available in the US, Canada, Japan and UK app stores).
Once logged in, tap the 'Configure' menu option. Follow the directions on screen.
