How It Works
Gimbal's Region Detection identifies users' regions, including country, state, city, and DMA (Designated Market Area). Marketers can effortlessly create personalized campaigns based on these parameters, maximizing relevancy and impact. With seamless integration into Airship's platform, managing and leveraging this data for targeted messaging has never been easier.
When a user's region is detected the Gimbal SDK will set the user's Airship Channel attributes with the following keys:
- gmbl_region_country
- gmbl_region_state
- gmbl_region_city
- gmbl_region_dma
- gmbl_region_zip
Here's how you can get started:
Enable Region Detection in Gimbal Manager:
- Log in to your Gimbal Manager account.
- Navigate to Applications -> Select Application -> Advanced Configuration -> SDK Feature Enablement.
- Turn on Region Detection and enter your Airship's Bearer Token to establish the connection.
Add Attributes to Airship:
- Log in to your Airship account.
- Go to Audience -> Attributes.
- Create a new attribute for each key corresponding to the regions you want to target.
Once you've set up Region Detection and added attributes to Airship, you're ready to start reaching your users according to their region. Here's an example of how you can utilize this feature:

Targeting Users in a DMA:
If you want to target users in a specific Designated Market Area (DMA), simply enter the Metro code associated with that region.
